STOP PRESS: H.E. Prince Frank Ukonga National Chairman DA –Blast
State Assemblies not in Support of the Local Government Autonomy Bill
H.E Prince Frank Ukonga the National Chairman of DA-
Democratic Alternative Party in his contribution blasted the State Assemblies
and governors not in support of the Local Government Autonomy bill. Saying “For
the dividends of Democracy to effectively, trickle to the grass root, it is
imperative to free the Local government, which is the 3 tier of governance of
the Nigeria Federation from the slavery of the governors”.
“The Nigerian constitution is very clear on this matter that
the Local Government structure of 776 LGA are Federating Units and
Developmental Centers in a colligating Siamese of collegiate concentric set
theory that intercept as auxiliary supportive to the state structure…this is a
beautiful masterpiece of structure, designed by those that drafted the 1999
constitution as amended but the state governors have decided to lord it over
the Local government at all cost at the expense of rapid socio economic and
infrastructural development of the people and LGA”.
Prince
Frank Ukonga chided the governors on the recent dysfunctional status of the
conduct of Local Government Elections where the incumbent governor through the
appointed State Electoral Commission carts away all the councillorship and
Chairmanship positions in their territories to the detriment of other political
parties..This he said is most unfair to the newly registered political parties
who would be eyeing winning councillorship or chairmanship of some of
the 776 LGA in the Republic, He appealed to INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmud Yakubu
to do all within his powers to check the excesses of State Electoral
Commissions
