HOTTEST NEWS OF THE WORLD: H.E. Prince Frank Ukonga -Nat. Chairman of DA Slam State Governors over Dysfunctional LGA polls, canvas scraping of SIEC & LGA Autonomy @ INEC Stakeholder's Summit:
The just concluded INEC Quarterly Consultative Summit with Political Parties held in Abuja a few days ago at the Electoral Institute which was chaired by the National Chairman of INEC Professor Mahmud Yakubu and graced by INEC Top brass , National Commissioners and shakers and movers of the Nigerian political turfs, was a successful Summit.
At the all important Consultative Summit, H.E.Prince Frank Ukonga -the National Chairman of DA-Democratic Alternative Party blasted the state governors of the Nigerian Federation over the "incumbent take all syndrome" in the conduct of the Local Govt Elections Nationwide. And many other chairmen of political parties at the summit agreed with the amiable prince.
If you notice that about 17 of the 36 states of the Nigerian Federation had conducted the LGA elections in the past 2 years[24 months] but the results had always followed a dysfunctional trend where the incumbent governor through the SIEC- State Independent Electoral Commission rig their political parties as winning all the LGA-Chairmanship and Chancellorship positions being contested in their various states : thereby edging out all other Parties from active participation in grass root politics and governance.
This trend is creating voter's apathy and de franchising many other institutions and citizens from cultivating genuine democratic culture and ethics in the Nigerian Federation the largest democracy in Sub Saharan Africa and the world third largest democracy.
LGA autonomy and checkmating the excesses of SIEC- [State Independent Electoral Commission] is imperative to the growth and sustainability of democratic dispensations in emerging democracies of the world.
This obnoxious, diabolical, affrontation against the will of the peoples of the Nigerian Federation by many state governors could atrophy and stagnate the growth and development of sustainable democratic dispensation in Nigeria, the most populous country of the Black Race and something must be done urgently by all the stakeholders in the Nigerian project to checkmate this unacceptable impudence.
