HOT NEWS; Ahead of 2023: 25 Parties form Coalition to Ensure Election of Credible Candidates

An interest group, Coalition for Good Governance (CGG) says it will adopt only qualified and capable candidates for election into various elective positions, ahead of the 2023 general elections. National Chairman of the coalition, Mr Okey Chikwendu, stated this at a news conference on Wednesday in Abuja. He stressed the need to engage in massive grassroots political and civil mobilisation and enlightenment to ensure emergence of credible candidates. Chikwendu said that the coalition would ensure that such candidates were elected in 2023 to run the affairs of the country. He said that the group would provide the requisite platforms for all elected candidates to market themselves to the electorate, ahead of the elections. This, the CCG national chairman said, would encourage promotion of equity, fairness and justice in the country, and also foster harmonious relationship among various ethnic groups. “We will organise training, workshops and town hall meetings to enlighten and sensitise Nigerians on the need for them to hold elected officers accountable for their actions and inactions. “As Nigerians await the outcome of the various political party primaries, CGG wants to make it categorically clear that it will liaise with the parties to let Nigerians know the best out of all the candidates,” he said. National Leader of the coalition, Mr Frank Igwebuike, said that the interest of the group was to ensure that for the first time in the history of the country, it had the president and the national assembly that would work together for the betterment of Nigeria. According to him, the unity of the country is currently being threatened, adding that it must be salvaged by well-spirited Nigerians. Also speaking, the coalition’s National Strategy and Planning Secretary, Mr Frank Ukonga, said that the move was necessary in order to reposition the country, adding that all hands must be on deck to achieve this. Ukonga, the presidential candidate of Democratic Alternative in the 2019 general elections, said that the coalition would not rest on its oars until it achieved the desire of Nigeria’s founding fathers.
